AUSTRIAN ATTACKS FAIL.

ROME, July 31. An official statement says;—- ' .. "Enemy infantry, with. .'machine-: guns, were repulsed on: Tuesday uight while attacking our .positions: at 1 the -entrance to ±he:Travenahzes Valley, on the Cadore front.

"In attempting a surprise attack against our Cooabella position the Austrians met with volleys at 100 yards' range, and were repulsed. "Our Alpini captured some spurs i» the Fella Valley.

"After their Carso failure the Austrians have been content with efforts to oppose our advances, but have failed. We captured more trenches, despite intense artillery and visxo fire. Austrian patrols were driven off while attempting to ignite Cappuccio Wood, where we are firmly entrenched."
