THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED.
At the-close of the.sermon at the Baring Square ■ Methodist Church last evening the Rev. W. J. Elliott made affectionate reference to tho late Private Herbert William Henderson, {" Tom "), who recently died of enteric fever at one of the base hospitals at the. front. He said that the deceased - soldier was a regular member of the : congregation, and he (Mr Elliott) had specially noted his reverent attitude and his deep interest in, Godly things. He regretted Private Henderson had not been privileged to return, to the shelter of the love and affection of his family, but he had . died in a noble cause. The minister complimented tho parents and relatives on the action of their sou in volunteering to fight for tho Empire, and; on behalf of the congregation, expressed to them hia sympathy and condolence. Private Henderson's favourite hymn. " Nearer, My God, to Thee," was feelingly sung by tho choir and congregation.
