VALEDICTORY GATHERINGS

WAKANUI

A farewell social and presentation was tendered to Mr Albert Amos, who is leaving for the F.ront, in the Wakanui School, on Monday evening last. Mr F. Frampton presided over a large attendance. . \

During the evening Mr John Cairns presented Mr Amos with a dressingcase, as a small token of the esteem in which he ia held by the people of the district.

On behalf of the Presbytorian Church Committee, the Rev. W. C. Blair presented the guest of the evening with a sovereign case. Mr Amos suitably replied. The following contributed to the programme : —Pianoforte solo, Mrs W. C. Blair; songs, Misses Cochrane and Wilson, Messrs A. Wilson, F. Frampton, W. Butterick, and the Hey, W. C. Blair; recitations, Messrs C. Frampton, W. Butterick, and S. Taylor. After supper had been handed round the room was cleared, and dancing was indulged in for a few hours, the music being supplied, by Messrs J. Cochrane and W. Anderson. „.•-.•

The singing of " Auld Lang Syne " brought to a close a very enjoyable evening.
