BRIGADSER-GENERAL McKAY.

, MELBOURNE. July 30. A cablegram has been received stating that Brigadier-General McKay is in Malta with a broken thigh. It is anticipated he will be sent to England.

Private W. J. Halkett (Canterbury Battalion), of Rakaia, who was previously reported missing, has rejoined his unit.

In letters received from Lance-Cor-poral Knight, oil Methven, dated Manchester, June 17, he stated that he was still in the Hospital there with a fractured right forearm; a piece of bone had been removed, but the bullet had not been extracted and it would likely take at least four months before .his arm would be fit to use. He says people are very kind there to New Zealanders and they have a lot of visitors, who bring them all sorts of presents. He was very fit and well otherwise, but being of a literary disposition ho regretted not being able to use his richt arm to write, his letters received "being all written with the left hand.

Mr George Nell, lote of Ashburton, and now of Tauranga, has received a letter, dated June 12, from his son, Trooper A. G. N-dl (Canterbury Mounted), who was wounded on May 28. He was shot through the shoulder, and after being a week on the Hospital Ship was taken to tho Egyptian Army Hospital at Cairo, where he is quickly recovering. Mr Nell also received a letter from .his son's officer. Lieutenant I). S. Murchison, reporting the occurrence, and saying: "The wound is not dangerous, but nifty take a month to completely heal." Trooper Nell's parents are much relieved at receiving this news, as from June 10, when they got news that he was wounded, they could get no information from the Defence Department as to his whereabouts and condition.
