MAYFIELD.
There wa.s again an enthusiastic gathering of residents of the Mayfioid district, in tho Band Hall, to bid goodbye to two young, men who have enlisted and are proceeding to Wellington. The .'Rev. P. Wilson presided. The programme was contributed to as'follows:—Pianoforte solos, Miss Abblett; pianoforte . duet, Misses Cameron; songs, Misses Cameron and D. Beckett,. Messrs Dellow, Edis, and G. Harrison. The chairman gave a short address.
. The presentations were made by Mr C. W. Withell, who dwelt on the honour due to men who were giving their best services and their lives to the Empire's need. He wished Mi' A. Gale and .Mr Thompson Godspeed and strength to do their duty and to obey Duty's call wherever it led them. On behalf of those present he presented the two young men each with a safety razor and a set of military brushes apiece. The recipients suitably responded. Messrs J. Dellow and J. Brown, and tho Rov.-\V. E. Sleep, also spoke.
Supper being over, the room was cleared, for dancing, which was kept up for some time with great spirit under the capable leadership of Lance-Cor-poral Sewe.ll as M.C.
