MOUNT SOMERS.
At Mount Somers on Thursday evening last, occasion was taken to tender Private. Edward Travers a farewell social and presentation. Private Travers will sail with tho Special Reinforcements, and is at present spending a few days here on sick leave.
The Rev. W. R. Milne presided over a large attendance, and, on behalf of the residents of the Mount Somers districts, presented Private Travers with a pair of military hair brushes, and a set of pipes. In doing so, Mr Milne paid a tribute to Private Travers, and those who had left and are leaving, for tho fine spirit that had actuated them to come forward at the Empire's call. He assured him, and all others, that their fellows honoured and respected them, and would do their duty in seeing that they would be thoroughly cared for.
Private Travers, in responding, thanked.his friends for their gifts, and added that he felt sure his fellows, like himself, "were bent on doing their best wherever duty called them.
During the evening a large number of songs and recitations were gone through. Supper was provided by the ladies, and dancing was kept up till the early hours of the morning.
