HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
Tho monthly meeting of the Ashburton High School Board of Governors was held to-day. Present:—Messrs J. Tucker .(chairman), W. B. Donshire, C. iteid, and W. T. Lill. An apology for absence was received from Mr A. i)rummonci.
'j'h©: chairman reported a debit balance on the Temporary Loans Account amounting to £5500, and a: credit balanca on the General Account amounting to £85 19s 4d. '' '
. A lengthy circular letter was received from the Director of Education in regard to the scheme of control for secondary schools. Tho letter stated that tho Minister had appointed Thursday, August 19, as the date of the first election by parents of pupils, and the Board was asked to takb steps to see that tho election was carried out.—lt was agreed to arrange for the election of two members by parents of pupils on the date appointed. ■ The headmaster reported that the school roll remained at 123 (75 boys a.nd 48 girls). The average attendance for the past month had been 116.5, or 93 per cent, of the roll.—Tho report was adopted. The visiting committee's report was received and adopted. Messrs Denshire and Collins wore appointed a visiting committee lor the ensuing month.
