FOUR. VICTORIA CROSS AWARDS
AN AUSTRALIAN, DECORATED.
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, July 24 (1.10 p.m.) Victoria- Crosses have been granted to the following:— Captain Eustace Jdthan, of the Ist Sikhs.
Lieutenant Georgcr Moor, of the 3rd Hampshire®. Corporal Joseph Tombs, of the Ist King's Liverpool. Regiment. Lance-Corporal Albert Jacka, of the 14th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Forces. The "Gazette' says :—/"Lance-Cor-poral Jacka, while holding a portion of our trenches with four others, was heavily attacked. When all except himself had been killed or wounded, the trench was rushed and occupied by seven Turks. Lance-Corporal Jacka immediately attacked them most gallantly single-handed and killed all the Turks, five by rifla fire and two with the bayonet."
The Military Cross has been awarded to Lieutenant Hilgroye McCormick, of the Ist Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians).
