ITALIANS CLAIM SUCCESSES.

ROME, July 24. An official statement .. saye:—"The battle continues on the whole of the Isonzo front. Our success.is constantly more -apparent. The Austrians, after a terrible artillery fire, made a massed attack on our front on the left wing on the Carso plateau.' We coun-ter-attacked, inflicting a veritable defeat. While our artillery mowed down the enemy's columns, our- 'infantry closed in, capturing 1500 prisoners. "The Austrian losses were extremely grave. The battlefield was covered with dead.

"We made further progress in front of Gorizia."

The Austrians are hurrying reinforcements, including ma^y Bavarians, to Gorizia, and flinging them into the firing line. The Italians arc holding on with bulldog tenacity.

The "Tribuna" states that the Italians have. captured commanding positions around the town, and its fall is imminent. The "Stampa's" correspondent at the front says that Fort Poiogrn is the only point the Austrians, hold on the right bank of the Isonzo, and is completely isolated, despite the garrison's sorties. It is believed its fall is imminent. % AMSTERDAM, July 25. An Austrian official communique states:—-"We completely repulsed an Italian attack on the Gorizia. bridgei head; Italian attacks on the Doberdo plateau are weakening,; The enemy yesterday, near Selz, penetrated part of our trenches, but a counter-attack drove them out." '
