TIMARU DRAIN MARKET.
TIMARU, April 23. Millers are still adhering to the "go slow " policy in the matter of buying wheat, and speculators are not very keen to do business. The result is chat prices have fallen away considerably from the 7s which was obtainable just after harvest. Tuscan has changed hands this week at 6s 4d and 6s sd, while Red Chaff is quoted at 6s 6d to 6s 7d, and Prime Velvet at 6s 7d to 6s 3d, delivered Timaru. There is a feeling that wheat will not be in such short supply as was at first thought. ■ • Very,few oats are offering. A grade Gartons are worth 3s 9d, and B grade Id less. Duns are practically unprocurable. The prices quoted are for oats at country -stations..
There is a, good Australian demand for chaff, and while oatshoaf is worth £5 5s to £5 10s per ton on trucks, oat straw chaff is worth Is 3d' 1 per bag, and wheat straw lOd per bag. Now that the lifting of potatoes, is general, the price has cased back a little. A good many tons changed hands during the week at £4 2s 6d per ton, the- buyers finding the bags, pood clean samples arc the rule this season, "there being no blight, and very few potatoes of second quality.
