The draft Bill amending the Immigration Act abolishes the residential license and validates de facto monogamous marriagos by registration. Provision is . made for Indian priests to solemnise marriages. There were disorderly scenes when General Smuts moved the, closure on the land tax proposals. Messrs Cressrall, Madely and Boydell were ordered to withdraw. G&neral Smuts's amendment deleting exemption was carried by 49 to 20. An amendment limiting the operation of, the measm'e to a year was named by 58 to 17. ..
