ASHBURTON—THIS DAY.
(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) By-law Breaches. A charge against David Smith of riding a motor-cycle too fast over theAshburton traffic bridge was adjourned. J. H. Davidson was charged with that the mark on his motor-car _ was not distinguishable, and with driving too fast over the Ashburton traffic bridge. On the first count he was fined 10s, and 40.s on the second, with costs in each case. - Unregistered Dogs. Arthur Wilson (Mr Bxichanan) was charged with ■ failing to register a dog, and pleaded not guilty.—-Andrew Christie (Inspector) said that defendant had become abusive when spoken to about the dogs.—-Defendant stated that he had not ; used any bad language to the Inspector. Witness had not owned a dog for nearly three years.1 —The Magistrate said tliat either defendant or the Inspector was not, telling the I truth. He would dismiss the case without prejudice. A -^similar charge, was preferred against William Langdon, who emphatically denied the Inspector's statement regarding the clog, and the Magistrate twice admonished him. On oath, accused said that his dog was registered. 1 Ho kept a greyhound for the destruction of rabbits. —-He was fined ss, and ordered to pay 10s registration fee. '■"'. i
John Straehan was also fined os and ordered to pay 2s 6d registration fee for a similar offence. Defence Act Cases. For breaches of the Defence Act ,tho following frr.es were imposed: —Henry Thomas Hyland; 60s; W. 11. Williams, 40s;, John Timothy Laffcy, 30s; W. H. Henderson, 20s; John Matthew Laffey, 20s; Edward "W. Newman,. 20,s ;■ Joseph Quisfley, 20s; . John Lee Q'Carroll. 20s; and Henry Gudsell, 20s. Charges against W. H. Henderson, Walter Avery,- Clifford R.;Bramley, Thonuifi E. Daley, Thomas Black,' 5 and Thomas Nicoll- were dismissed. Civil Case.' Judgment for plaintiff" by default, with 4 ,the usual costs,'was ' given in favour of C. L. Handcock ;against W. j Gunn for 7s Bd. '
