Wellington's Oriental quarter in the Magistrate's Court ,to-day, when Edward James Curtice was charged with assaulting Florence Jane Curtice. A witness for the prosecution was Charlie' Ah Chqug, a laundryman residing ,in. Haining- Street, who said the woman had lived M'ith him for about 18 months. He did not know she was a married woman. On September 12 last accused called, at the laundry with some clothes. Florence Curtice came into the shop, whereupon the-accused caught hold of' her. Curtice took a revolver out of, his- ' pocket, but his wife dodged his" aim. Subsequently witness, who went for the police, heard a revolver shot, and later found a shot embedded in- the door.. His "Worship said there was no doubt the accused had had great provocation, and in the circumstances he would be only lightly penalised. A fine of LOs was inflicted, with costs.
