TIMBER MILL BURNED DOWN.
'DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £40,000
DARGAVILLE, December 17. A. disastrous fire is-reported from Te Kopura, tho Kauri Timber Company's mill being completely destroyed. The- loss is estimated at £-10,000. About 100 mill-hands are thrown 1 idle, which will practically mean the ruination of the township.
HASTINGS, December 16. The insurances on the properties destroyed by the fire, last- night are:— Harding's building, occupied by Little and Fairey (butchers) and Jamie Lee (restaurant), £550 in the Royal Office: Begley's building, occupied by Mrs Ingram (draper), and Kirchener (confectioneer), £400 in the Alliance Office, and £600 in the North" British.and Mercantile; Ingram's stock, £200 in the New Zealand office, £900 in the Royal, and £600 in the State Office; Lee'sJurniture, etc., £150 in the New Zeaiand office; Kirchener's stock, £250 in the Northern "Union office. Little and ! Fairey were not insured.
