It is believed that the disastrous fire at the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin's castle at Schwerin was the revengeful act of a discharged servant. . ■_ j There was only one fire ' engine, and j owing to a violent wind-storm the conjflagration spread with lightning-like j The famous Golden Hall and Golden Staircase were destroyed. The entire garrison fought the flames and succeeded in rescuing- -historical The damage is estimated at;£150,000.
