RIOTERS CONVICTED.
WARNING TO UNION OFFICIALS.
AUCKLAND, November 26. Three coses arising out of the recent industrial unrest were dealt with by
Mr Frazer, S.M.,'at the Police Court to-day. The first case was against Henry Hawks, a waterside worker-, 55 years or age, 1 now on strike. Accused was charged with using insulting language on Tuesday last, and was convicted and fined £3 and costs (12s), the default being 14 days' imprisonment.
The president of the Painters' Union, William James Hallet, was charged with threatening behaviour on November 18. Mr Frazer said he was sorry to note this was the second responsible official who had lost his head during time of stress. He hoped that the accused .recognised' the responsibility of union officials, who must understand that no ; matter what the union agrees to, men have the right to strike or work, and the law must protect them. Accused was convicted and fined £2 and costs (£1 7s). ;
A charge of using insulting language in Queen Street on Monday last was preferred against Robert Cromwell* a young man, who was accused of making use of offensive words to special constables.
