WRECKED TYRONE.
FIRM AND UNMOVABLE.
(Per Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, October I
A stiff nor'-easter sprang up this morning and made the continuance of the preliminary operations in connection with the attempt to refloat the Tyrone practically impossible: The tug Plucky left Port Chalmers in the morning towing a punt on- which had been placed a 16 horse-power boiler and some other gear, but it was deemed inadvisable to proceed outside the Heads, and the punt was accordingly, moored at Harrington Point and the tug returned to Port Chalmers. It is hoped •that the weather will hare sufficiently moderated by totmbrrow 'to enable operations to be gone on with. The Maitai, which is due to-morrow morning, is bringing a quantity of salvage gear and the Terawhiti 'is expected to-me:-it or early in the morning.
The Harbour Board tug, Koputai, with several members of the Board and other interested gentlemen, went out to the scene of the disaster to-day. The vessel presented a rather desolate appearance'and sat as firm as; rock 1 and seemed either to be. down atfthe bows or else resting on something, tery solid at the stern. Waves were washing up against her side arid throwing spray onto the decks forward, but she stood immovable. The salvage party seems to have a pretty stiff problem confronting it, but until the diver has completed his survey, there can be nothing more than conjecture as to the extent of the injuries; -
