A BETTING CASE.

(Per Pres3 Association.) WELLINGTON, November 12. Alexander Boyd and Thomas f)alton appeared before Mr W. G. Riddcll, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, charged with betting on tho Trentham Racecourse on October 28. .Constable Smith said in his evidence that he had'approached Dalton on the course, and said: "Give me halt' a dollar on Lady Volga." The defendant said: "Keep dark, the ' J).' has his glasses on us from the root." He then held his hand down by his side and tola witness to drop the half-crown in it. This witness did, and later on he gavo him another half-crown, saying that, he could book the bet to " G.S." Dalton was fined £25 with costs £6 16s. Tho hearing of the charge against Boyd was adjourned till next morning. ' -WELLINGTON, November 13. Archibald Boyd wa., to-day fined £20 for i 1 legal betting on the Treut'liam racecourse. Leave to appeal was j granted.
