ANNUAL MEETING.

GREYMOUTH, February 28. The annual meeting of the • Press Association was held to-day. Those present were: Messrs Brett, Chairman (Auckland "Star"), Fenwick ("Otago Daily Times"), !>• Blundell (Wellington "Post"},. Horton ("N.Z. Herald," Auckland), Selig (Chnstchurch ''Press"), Smith . (Dunedin "Star"), Pirani (Feilding "Star"), Carson (Wanganui ''Herald"), McCuilough (Thames " Advertiser "), Duigan (Wanganui "Herald"), Mcßobie (Waihi ''Telegraph"),, Wynne (Waikato "Argus"), Muir (Gisborne "Herald' '),- "Weston. (Taranaki ''Herald), James (Grey "Argus"), Kilgour (Greymouth • -'Star"), Hyman (Lyttelton -Times"), Luc^s (Nelson "Mail"), Kerr (Timaru "Herald"), Joyce (Timaru "Post"). R. B. Bell' (Ashburton "Mail" and "Guardian"), Bond (Nelson "Colonist"), Coombe (Manawatu "Standard"), Hoben (Manawatu "Times"), Russell (Dannevirke "Advocate'?), Gecklls (Napier "Telegraph"), Robinson (Hokitika "Times"), Williams (AVestport "Star'), Furness (Blenheim "Express"). Mr Atack, the manager, in his annual report, commented on the continued enlargement of the cable service, which had nearly doubled in three years, and '■ notwithstanding the decrease in rates, was costing £1000 a year more than two years ago. Despite the omission of. minor , claims, 552,515 words of original cable matter had. been-supplied during the year, representing more than a million words when filled out for publication. Allusion was also made to the heavy work of reporting during an election campaign,- and to the great, athletic gatherings, which had made New Zealand their Venice last year. The number of papers belonging to the Association were stated at seventy-one. It was announced that a copyright report ot Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition had been purchased. . # The Chairman, Mr Brett, m moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, delivered an address on; the working of the Association, with suggestions for an improvement of the service, and mentioned, inter aha, that this year completed the jubilee ot his connection with journalism. (Applause). The report was adopted. Messrs L. Blundell and Selig were re-elected directors, and F. Shaw audiAuckland was chosea for the next place of meeting. Members passed a vote or condolence on the death of the late Mr W. Atkin, of the Westport "News," and one of hearty congratulations to MiBrett on his* journalistic jubilee, was carried with great applause.
