LEGALISATION OF GAMBLING.

Republicans from Outeiro destroyed the .much-revered image of Our Lady of Lourdes in the neighbouring village of Assentis. Two thousand Catholics marched into Outeiro, and in a fierce fight, five persons were killed and forty seriously wounded. The cavalry and infantry have been re-established by order of Parliament. The Press is favourable to the Government's Bill legalising gambling, opening luxurious casinos in the chief towns, and granting licenses to the highest bidders, A British syndicate, with a capital of £1,000,000,, has offered to build casinos in Lisbon and Cmtra similar: to that at Monte Carlo.
