WELLINGTON, January 11. The body of William David James, a retired building contractor, was found at his residence this moaning suspended by a window cord. He. was forty-two years of age, and was to have joined his family at Te Kuiti on Saturday. OHRISTGHURCH, January 12. . Shortly after five o'clock yesterday morning Mr H. Bowley, a Custom House officer at Lyttelton, observed a .body of a maa floating, underneath the east side of No. .6 wharf. He called Constable Cowan, and the body was removed from the water and taken to the public morgue. The body was fully clothed with the exception of a; coat, and appeared to have been in the water for about a week. It is understood that the name of the man js Campbell, who up to a week ago was employed as a seaman on board the steamer Wakatu. A coat', resembling much in appearance that worn by the deceased, was found on a i doorstep in Norwich Quay, Lyttelton, last Friday morning. A sum of money was found in the deceased's pockets. Dr. J. A. Newell made a postmortem examination of the body yesterday afternoon. . . ..-..'.. . Yesterday morning a young man named Taylor met with a serious accident through falling from the roof of a building in course of construction in Rodney Street, New "Brighton.! which he was engaged in painting. Taylor became giddy while at his work and before he could in any way save himself he rolled from the roof to the ground, seriously injuring his back and breaking several of his ribs. Dr. Stevents attended him, but his condition is considered critical.
