The- Prime Minister remained in Wellington during the Christmas holidays. Mr W.- PI. Moyes, M.A., B.Sc, assistant at King's College, Auckland, lias been appointed, out of 49 applicants, to be principal of New Plymouth High School, in succession to Mr E. Pridham, who has resigned after 30 years 'service. ' Mrs Lindsay .Mackie, who passed away at Dunedin, on Wednesday afternoon, after a prolonged and peculiarly painful illness, was the wife of the Rev. Lindsay Mackie, who is still widely and affectionately remembered as 1 the minis-. I>er of First Church, to which he came j from Melbourne in the early seventies. Mrs Mackie was the daughter of Dr. Andrew Cameron, well known as the founder and editor of the " Family j Treasury/ a religious monthly that attained a wide popularity, and influ- j «nee in the Old Country. Dr. Cameron i to a prominent leader in support of j -union in the-great controversy regarding the union of the Free and United Presbyterian Churches of Scotland. I Mrs Mackie was called upon to endiire j a great deal of suffering, not only from I frequent. ill-health, but from the loss: of three.promising sons and of her hus-| band, who passed away in 1883. She is survived by two 'daughters, the elder ! i^fsf whom, Sister > Linda, was for some \jTtinie. deaconess at First Church, and more recently ministered in the same capacity, with, great acceptance, to the congregation of St. David's, in Auckland. The only relative of the family in the Dominion is the Rev. Gr. B. Inglis, .of Ash burton, who is a cousin -of the late Mr Lindsay Mackie.
