BOXING DAY.
Today conditions were brighter, and as the sun got through the clouds at . intervals, the ground quicklyJlried and the day passed off pleasantly. The main local attraction was the Ashburton Trotting Club's summer meeting, but many went to Mount Somers by the special train to attend the races J there, while not a few journeyed to | Temuka by the special express to attend, the Caledonian sports. An athletic, sports meeting was also to havebeen held at Rakaia, but the heavy; rain of Monday was too much for the! grounds in the Domain, which were left practically under water. The club's -executive committee met at an early hour, and after a short discussion, decided- to postpone the sports indefinitely DUNEDIN, December 26. After a long spell of wet weather Boxing Day is fine. The principal attractions are the D.J.C. races at Winga'tui, and the Otago regatta at Port Chalmers.'-- ..... •
