GABRIEL'S GULLY JUBILEE.

LAWRENCE, May 22.

The celebration organised in connec"* tion with the jubilee of the. discovery of gold "in Gabriel's Gully commenced at Lawrence to-day. Close on 1500 people arrived in town, from Dunedin and all parts of the district, and today's celebrations were participated in. by about. 2500 people. A processionof pioneers comprised 280 old miners of 18f51 and subsequent years.The Hon. R. McKerizie, Minister of Mines-,. w<a& present as representative of the Government, and: gave an address) to the miners and public-. The gathering was also addressed by Messrs; Jas* Allen, M.P.. G. J. Anderson, M.P.-/ and R. Scott, M.P., the Mayor of Lawlrence (Mr James Robertson, who is organiser of the movement), Mr William Burnett (Mayor of Dunedin), Mr Joseph Grimmond (West Coast), Mr James Randall Gascoigne (Auckland), and 'others.

A familiar figure in Ashburton, Ikfr Patrick Coffee, is taking part in the> Gabriel Gully jubilee, as one of the earliest miners.
