At the moment of tho strike m Philadelphia tho orchestras m the hotels and cafes ceased playing, and ceb and taxi-cab' drivers abandoned their vehicles. The wealthy drove their own motor-cars. Tho police havo been doubled, and every fireman is at his post. Tho authorities prevented an open-air meeting. Many large works are still not seriously affected. Some tramcars arc running, guarded by police.
