SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT.

WELLINGTON, December 15. David Bates, who a fortnight ago, after a drinking bout, assaulted two women, inflicting injuries on one vof them with a table knife, was to-day sentenced to four months' and two months' imprisonment on the two charges, the * sentences to be concurrent. One of the women, who was cut hy a" knife on various ■ parts ■of the body, was also kicked and thumped till she was unconscious. She has since been m the hospital, but was able to givte evidence to-day.
