ASHBURTON GRAIN MARKET.
■-■ The following is the market repbrt for the week "ending"October*'l, 1909: Wheat.—There has been ho business of any'magnitude and the market continues in the same dull stage as previously reported on. Prices are nominally unchanged for prime milling. Sales could be made at 4s 3d for prime Tuscan, 4s 2d for. Pearl and 4s to :4s Id for Hunters; but in the absence of offerings, no actual sales have been reported. The prospects for the coming season are bright, and the weather experienced has been all that could be .desired. Old farmers in the district are unanimous^in,'saying that they have never seen'--th'e <wheat crop looking better,: and this is more gratifying when taken into account with the very large area under cultivation for wheat this year.
Oats.—There has been a slightly better enquiry,. but offerings are still scarce and only small lines suitable for coastal trade have been on the market. Prices are easier all round, and feed Gartons are only bringing fromf Is 4d to Is sd, lighter feed Is 3d to Is 4d. Oatsheaf chaff continues unsaleable, and a very large quantity will have to be carried over in consequence.
