ASHBURTON CATHOLIC CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Ashburtou Catholic Club was held on Tuesday evening. There was an exceptionally large attendance, and Mr T. Brophy (president) occupied the chair. The report and balance sheet were read, and showed the club to be m a healthy financial condition. The assets

were given as exceeding £70, and liabilities £6. The report pointed out that the. piano debt had been extinguished with the exception of a small sum, which it was hoped to clear off at an early date.

The report and balance sheet were adopted, and the secretary and Mr Brophy were accorded a vote of thanks for tho'able manner m which the statement had been drawn up. Two new members were) proposed, and one was balloted for.

An oratorical competition on "Some distinguished person m history," for a prize presented by the Wellington executive of Catholic Federated Societies, drew; four entrants, and the judges, Messrs F. K. Cooper, D. McDonnell, <J. Moison and M. J. Burgess, awarded the prize to Mr Brady. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President, Mr F. Pritchard; vice-president, Mr F: Hanrahan; secretary, Mr J. Lenrion (re-elected); treasurer, Mr E. Hanrahan; council, Messrs D. McDonnell, J. Hannibel, M. Moriarty, T. Brophy, J. Purcell; auditors, Messrs M. J. Burgess and F. Brophy. The customary votes of thanks were passed, and the meeting adjourned.
