FOOTBALL.
To the Editor. Sir,—A letter appearing m last week's Guardian concerning a football match played between two school teams contained, m my opinion, a good deal of truth. I also notice m the report of the Rugby Union's meeting, when the referee stated that a spectator was continually inciting the Hampstead boys to play a more willing game, which one might expect to have a tendency to bring on rough play, which was not exhibited. The Union, I understand, have warned this person against such conduct. Now, I think— m fact, I am sure—the wrong person has been written to, as it was from the Borough School that the man came from, and' he was inciting the borough boys on. Now, out of fairness to both parties, the referee should acknowledge this fact, and apologise to Hampstead for the mistake. I would also like to add that m future matches the foot-gear should be more closely inspected, as three borough boys came on the field with toeplates, and two played the first spell through before being detected. I may say I am a frequent visitor to these matches, and hope I shall not see a repetition of what occurred last week. A PARENT OF ONE OF THE BOYS.
