ARBITRATION COURT.
DUNEDIN, February 3. The Arbitration Court sat to-day. Mr McCullough. sat for the first time, and Mr Pryor, deputy-representative, represented the employers. The Dunedin Pork and Poultry Company was fined £2 for employing C. Miner as a small goods butcher under the award rate of wages. Miner was mulcted in costs for accepting less than the statutory wage, " J. Webster was proceeded against for employing a journeyman upholsterer on piece work. The Court sustained the contention of the defence as to the relationship of the contractor and the man who gave out the work, and dismissed the case.
A charge against a man named Robertson of employing two apprentices indentured to sign writing in the ordinary work of painting was dismissed; but thp Court directed the Inspector to prosecute for illeged inadequate payment of wages. " ! '" ; ■'' ' ' '
