THE GENERAL ELECTION.
ASHBURTON SEAT.
Affairs in connection with the Ashburton seat at the next general election have been very quiet of late. "So far, only two candidates have definitely announced themselves —namely Mr Flatman, M.P., and Mr Henry Davis, both of whom will be straight-out supporters of the present Administration. Other candidates have been spoken of, and it is probable that the Political Labour League may put a man in the field; It is understood that neither Mr G. W. Leadley nor Mr John Studholme can be induced to stand in the Opposition interest, but there is some talk of Mr W. S. Maslin, of Geraldine, an ex-member of Parliament, being likely to come forward as an opponent of the Ward Administration. It is very improbable that Mr John McLachlan will again seek re-election.
