ALLEGED ARSON.
DTJNEDIN, August 10. A man was arrested for setting fire to a house insured in the Royal Insurance Office for £225. He owned the house, which was occupied by a tenant. The alleged offence took place when the latter was absent. The flames were extinguished by men who, on rushing in were struck by the smell of phosphorus. Accused had left the premises only a few minutes when the fire broke out. A tin, which had contained phos-. phorus, was found on the premises, and the police say they can prove it was bought by the accused.
