TECHNICAL CLASSES.

The monthly meeting of the Board i of Managers of the Ashburton Techni- 1 eal Classes was held at the Borough Council Chambers last night. Present —Mr H. Davis (in the chair) and Messrs Hugo Friedlander, W. H. Collins, T. Hayes, R. A. Collins, C. Reid, J. W. McGregor and the secretary. An apology for absence was received from Mr Tucker. ' The chairman reported that the credit balance at the bank was £166 14s 6d.

The Roy. G. B. Inglis forwarded liis resignation, which was received with regret. It was resolved to inform the High School Board and ask it to appoint a successor. Mr B. J. Marquet wrote asking that the wool-sorting class should start not later than 1.30 p.m., so as to allow him to catch the first express . He stated that both fleece and piece wool would be needed. This was agreed to. The secretary reported that a total of £11 0s 3d was received from selling the articles made by the cookery class. Two demonstrations had been held and £\ 9s 6d had been collected. The chairman said that he and Mrs Davis were present at the dressmaking demonstration, and he recommended the members to go with their wives. Mr McGregor suggested that two ladies should be appointed,to visit, and after some discussion, it was resolved that the members should attend with their wives. ; The Department of Labour granted permission to rise a room in the establishment of Messrs Friedlander Bros, for the wool-sorting class on Thursday afternoons. It was resolved to write thanking the Department. Mr G. J. McCormac, St. Leonards, Dunedin, wrote asking for particulars o!' the wool-sorting einss. The secretary said that he had forwarded what information he could.

The executive committee reported that it had decided to continue the dressmaking class at Hinds and Ashburton. Regarding the cookery class, it was decided to hold an examination at the end of the term, and to grant certificates to successful students. ..It; t was left with the instructor to continue the bookkeeping Class if a sufficient number joined. Tho question of water (the tanks had run_ dry), was left in the hands of the i chairman and secretary to arrange with the Gas Company for a supply ..from its tank. Accounts amounting to £31 7s 7d were passed for payment', and the meeting terminated. ,
