ASHBURTON v. SOUTH CANTERBURY.
JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. The annual match between the Ashburton County and South Canterbury took place at .Timaru yesterday. Timaru kicked off, and the Ashburton forwards carried the ball to 1 im-ams-twenty-five. From a scrum, billinsrham gob possession, and punted. The Blues (Timaru) started a passing rush, which Segers intercepted and with Veel dribbled to Timaru line, and well boating the Timaru defence Gillingham touched down within nve minutes of commencement ot play. Reid took the kick, and placed a beauty. Timaru invaded Ashburton twenty-five, and only missed a score by a 'wild pass, Reid* relieving. Ashburton continued to press, butwere losing opportunities by slow follow mg°n Timaru, by concerted play became dangerous, Spillane repeatedly saviiiß his side, and developing play. At half-time the score stood-Ashbur- j ton 5, Timaru nil. I Ashburton opened the second spell by a nice passing rush, all the backs participating, but from a subsequent line-out hard kicking only resulted in a force-down. A passing rush by Aslibnrton and a good chance to score was spoilt by an illegal tackle by Rein for Ashburton. Timaru became^ gressive, and took play to the Comity twenty-five, where over-anxiety resulted in .Ashburton being forced. Aslv burton* came down with a foi*aid dribble, and Dansey, gettingthe ban passed to Segers, who centred, and Patterson and Veel made one or two openinS? and eventually Patterson.S3' up fast, hustled the Timaru fnil-back and Stills touched down. No side was then sounded, the, game resulting in a win for the Ashburton representatives by 12 points to ml. Mr Strachan was referee.
