Hopwood Masters B. Cbthier, F. Shearer, M. McMillan and Misses Stokes and M Blake; address, Rev. Mr Liddell; and dialogues by a number of children. A rifle shooting match for a prize given by Mrs T. Rollitt, and confined to members of the Hamnstead school cadets, was fired to-day with the following results: Sergeant Rollitt, 62 points' Ist; Corpl. Digby, 60 points, 2nd; Sergeant Rountree, 59 points, 3. Other average scores were: Cadet Childs and Corpl. Betts, 57 points, Cadet Jones 55 points, Cadet Beaumont 41 points.

Herr Hugo Gorlitz, now a resident of Ashburton, has been so favourably impressed with many good voices he has heard since his arrival, that he has decided to invite those who have talent and inclination in that direction, to join an operatic class, for the purpose of producing comic and serious o^er* oratorios and cantatas.
