A blood-stained dagger, a chopper, .•aws and a knife wore foui.d in their apartments. A niece who had been living with them was sent away before the crime. Mrs Goold told peopie that her husband was subject to blood-spitting. Goold, while at Monte Carlo openly styled himself Sir Vero Goold, and his wife gave the police her maiden name - as Girdodin. Both were heavy gamblers. An entry in Mrs Livey's note book mentions that she hud lent the Goolds i thousand francs, and a card was found, asking for immediate repayment. The newspapers allege that Goold is ■"■pparently a brother of Sir James Ste•ilifin Goold;'or. that it.is an assumed ■ame. The prisoners, with a niece, lived at Montreal Pn iS9I, and conducted a fashionable dressmaking business. v _ Sir James Stephen Goold married Mademoiselle Girodin.
