ASHBURTON MOUNTED RIFLES.

The Ashburton Mounted Rifles paraded on two occasions yesterday for capitation purposes. The mustpr, which was good at both parades, included the Ashburton and Rakaia divisions, the whole being- under the command of Captain Studholme and Lieutenants G. Hardy and H. E. Blunden. At 2 p.m. the men were put through a course of volley-firing at the Ashburton range, and extended order drill in pieparation for the work it is expected they will have to do in the presence of Colonel Davies, Inspector-General, on iugust 19. In the evening, the company paraded at the Drill Shed, and was put through a course of manual and firing exercises and extended order exercises. In addition to the officers already mentioned, Drill-Instructor Staff-Sergeant-Major Clements was pesent. The men acquitted themselves in a satisfactory way, an(r before dismissing them the Officer Commanding referred to the visit of the Inspector-General, and issued a number of verbal orders regarding the parades to be held on that occasion.
