Moule has been appointed to the judgeship vacated by the death of AEr Justice Molesworth. SYDNEY SHOP ASSISTANTS. SYDNEY, July 30. " The State Arbitration, Court award will substantially better the wages and conditions of shop assistants all round.'

The shop assistants' award embodies a:i advance of about 30 per cent, in wages generally, in some instances, 40 to 50 per cent. The wages of male assiotants of nine years' experience, are fixed at £2 10s, females, not less than

27s 6d ; hours, 53 per week. The employers' representative' on the Arbitration Court dissented from that portion of the award relating to remuneration, declaring that the minimum wages were excessive, especially for females, and if ultimately adopted and made a common rule, would tend to create great loss, and in some cases would ruin business people.
