ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT.
AUCKLAND, July 30. Alfred Michell, who had been employed by Messrs Wingate and Co., merchants, of Auckland, was arrested to-day on a charge of embezzling £15 5s od. A number of other charges are said to be pending. It is alleged that the total defalcations will run : .into some hundreds of pounds. \ AUCKLAND, July 31. At the Police Court, Alfred Machelly (spelt Michell in the earlier message), charged with having stolen and fraudulently converted to his own use £15 5s 5d and £1048, of the moneys of Messrs Wingate and Company, was remanded till Tuesday. The accused came from Australia about 13 years ago. and he left the employment of Messrs Wingate and Company three months ago, tho reason being entirely unconnected ! with the charges now preferred against him.
