Two Lives Lost.
Heroic Rescue Work.
United Press Association —By Rleotrio Telegraph Dunbdin, Nov. 8 An accident occurred at the Kaitangata coal mine to-day by which William Lee, engineer, and son of the managing director, 24 years old, and Frederick Olive Anderson 46 years old, deputy manager, lost their lives.
Work was going on in the main drive £o block off a fire. Lee and Anderson went down to see if they could locate the fire. They entered the return airway with searoh lights, and were overcome with black damp. Tne manager, on finding out what they had done, at once took steps to searoh for them. Anderson was found 30 feet away from the door, and a second party found Lee 200 feet away. Efforts were made to resucitate them, but without avail. The miners worked heroically in getting out the bodies, and several were overcome with black damp. Anderson was a married man and had a grown up son.
