Cash Cycling and Athletic Club.
Owing to the unfavourable weather yesterday, the inaugural run of the Ashburton Cash Cycling and Athletic Club was not the suocess that it would have otherwise been. Some twenty cyclists, including riders of decorated bicycles, left the Post Office for the residence of His Worship the Mayor (Mr H. Davis), Carter's Terrace, Tinwald, where they were liberally entertained.
Prior to their departure, the guests briefly thanked the Mayor, Mayoress, and family for the honour conferred ou them.
In replying to the vote of thanks, the Mayor said he was always pleased to further the interests of sports clubs, providing, of course, that thay were run on right line 3. He regretted the unfavourable weather and other engagements, which had prevented him from treating his guests in a manner that ha wou'd have liked, but he could assure the Club that hia sympathy was alwaya with matters that included the welfare of the young men of Ashburfcon.'
Prior to their departure, the Club gave three hearty cheers for the Mayor, Mayoress and family. The Mayoress, who judged the decorated bicycles, allocated the awards as follows; —The most origjtial costume—M.astsr Guy Rollitt; b.ost decorated lady's bicycle,—Mrs T. Turtill! ' '
A meeting of the Committee was held in thfl evening, Ms Turtill presiding. Several letters were read and considered and it was decided to hold a road race on Thursday October 26th, to Winohmore station and back. Ifc was also suggested ■thattho club should hold a sports meeting on December 14th,
