The entries for the Timaru Show this year number 904, as against 852 for last year. The principal increase is in the sheep classes.

Tne difference in the value of potatoes this year and last is again shown in the Agricultural Department's export leaflet. In Septerabar of last year the colony exported 180 tons, valued afc .£443 or about ,£2 9s a ton. Last September 28 tons were sent away, the value being put down at J3326 or nearly .£ll 13s a ton.
The Grand Hotel in Wellington, is to be eight, storeys high. To make all parts of this great hotel ea3ily accessible, elevators will be provided by which guests and their paraphernalia may in a few moments gain apartments, even on the top storey. Every floor is being constructed of " breeze concrete, " which, while comparatively light in texture, is considered the best check to a fire spreading from floor to floor.
