Two crickeb matches have been arranged for to-morrow between the Ashburton and Tinwald Cricket Clubs. The following are the selected players, viz. :—Ashburton A v. Tiuwald A—(Ashbuiton)—Nicoll (2), Harper (2), Blunden (2), Buchanan, Lewis, J. Brown, F. Robilliard and G. Andrews. TinwaW—G. Culverhouse, Mitchell, Clark (2), D McKenzie, H Millichamp, R Johnstone, S Gudsell, W Bell, F Thompson and F Hughes. This match will be played on the Domain Oval, starting at 2.30 sharp.

(emergencies included), to be played on Tinwald Domain commencing at 2.30 p.m. sharp.—Ashburton —Friedlander, Eoberts, Orr, Amos, Berryman, G Smith, Morrissey, Baigent, Morgan, Cook, Rowden, L F Andrewes, J B Christian and W Allan. Tinwald—G and W McKenzie, C and G Bell, T Gudsell, A Millichamp, J Gudsell, Bushell, R Davis, Clothier, Helem, Veel, A Dixon and R McKenzie.
Fire—A six roomnd house at Wheatsfcono owned by Mr J. Fuseell was totally destroyed by five last opening. Mr FnsseH left the house shortly afrer lea tinse and was not aware that it had beeu burned down till informed this morning. Tho origin of tho nic is unlcnowu. Mr FusseU states that ho thoroughly extinguished the stove fire before leaving the house. Several outhouses attached to the main building wero iilso destroyed. The housu was insured in the Now Zealand Fire Insurance Office (Messrs Nicoil Bros local agents) for ,£125. It is understood that thore was little or no furniture in the building, Mr Fussell having some time ago removed to Fairfield. Trafalgar Day Celebrations — The combined school committees, the Catholic school included, together with the Cadets, will march to the Domain to-morrow afternoon, where the flag will be hosted, and appropriate speeches will be mide iv celebration of Trafalgar Day. An effort is being made to induce one of the brass bands to bo present and discourse music appropriate to the occasion. The public are cordially invited to be present. Cathowc Literary Society,—There was a fa r attendance at the ordinary weekly meeting of the Catholic Literary and Social Club last night, the president (Mr D. McDonnell) occupying the chair. After the ordinary business had been transacted, a euchre tournament was played fora prize donated by the president, which resulted in a win for that gentleman. Mr McDonnell re-donated the prize, which will be competed for on some future evening. The remainder of the evening was devoted to music and son?. Eetail Tradeus' Association —A meeting of the committee of the Aehburton i Retail Traders' Association was held to-day, when the matter of holidays was discussed. It was decided nob to request members to close their places of business on Friday (Trafalgar Dny). It was suggested that any celebrations ta held on the Thursday afternoon in the Domain, and those retailers who have flags hoist them. With regard to the Asiiburton Show, it was doaided to adhere to tho resolution vassed at last meeting, viz., to request members to close as soon as possible after 12 o'clock noon on November 2nd, and as regards Christetmrch Show, to request members to close all day on Friday, 10th November (people's day), rh& Oh being a Statntory holiday (Kind's Birthday), Anniversary Day (December, lfjth) falling on a Saturday it was decided to hold it on Monday, December 18th, and to request the Mayor to proclaim the alteration of the date in lieu o? the Thursday halt' holiday, Mr G. Jesson requests people to call on him and inspect his Btock, also to bring all their watch repairing to him.
