A deputation, representing the leading implement makers and firms in the colony, interviewed the Premier yesterday with ~ the object of getting the Government to assist in fighting the American Harvester Trust The deputation represented that if unrestricted competition was allowed, the Trust would drive the Colonial manufacturers out of business within 4 or 5 years. Legislat on was asked for ia the direction of preventing the Trust from operating in the colony. The Premier said he was aware of the approaching danger, but he did not think a prohibitive duty could be impoaed. Ha advised the implement manufacturers to take step? to place the position before the farmers. If the farmers recognised that the crushing of the local makers would be followed by a great increase in prices, aa the Trust proceeded to exploit the country they would be willing to assist the New Zealand firms to maintain their business.* He would refer the matter to the Cabinet, He hoped to bring the, Trades Monopoly Prevention Bill to its second reading this Session.
