The Victorian Affent General.

Mr Taverner returned lo London by the last steamer via America and will resume the duties of Agent General. He went to Kydney on the understanding he would return to Melbourne nnd consult the Government with reference to the future management of the agency. Sickness delaying him, he sailed to Sydney without visiting Melbourne. After consideration by the Cabinet, the Premier has written to Mr Taverner condemning his hurried departure and informing him he should have returned and ascertained the wishes of the Government. The Premier's letter concludes " I cannot but regard your action as h'ghly censurable."
