Wanganui, Dec 28

A carnival and swimming sports were held in the public baths this afternoon. Heavy rain fell, but the attendance of the public was large. The swimming was of a high standard. J. Hamilton won the 220 yards championship in 2min oOsec, which beats the previous New Zealand record. He also annexed 880 yards championship in t4min 16sec. The first round of the water polo championship was won by WaDganui, who beat Haw^ta by 6 goals to nil, Dick Cavill, the world's champion,- took »art in the sports. He was in good form and won the 100 yards handicap in G i l-ssec. The weather to-night Is very stormy.
