A fireman named James Douglas, who recently missed his passage by the steamer "Auchenblae" for Sydney, yesterday received his wages to..the amount of £4 5s 8d by post at Auckland. At Taihape the infant daughter of Mr John Gesnge, of Kawhatau, was burned to death on Tuesday through playing in front Of the fire with an empty sugar bag, which caught fire.

One of the leading horses of a waggon carrying the Taihape Brass Band, was drowned in the Moawhanga ford on.Boxing Day. The driver and bandsmen were rescued in an exhausted condition.
