Rakaia Sports & Races.

Tho Annual Sports of tho I-akaia Sports and Ksciug Club which took place yesterday (flexing Day) at the Kakaia Domain were an eminently successful Gilo;t. The weather was beautiful, though too warm to be called perfect; but tho course is surrounded with trees so tba.t- patrons of the tnoeting could escape the fierce rays of the midsummer sun. The racing in the gallop events where tho fields wore not at all large was interesting, while the trotting races were watched with great enthusiasm by thu largo crowd which was present. The ath- I lecio events were keenly contested, the issue in some instances being in doubt till the judge's decision was made known. The Kllesmete Brass Band was in attendance and enlivened the proceedings with bright selections; Ihe luncheon booth was in the hands of Mr Geo. Murray, of Rakais, and the refreshments supplied appeared to win ' the appreciation of those who partook theraof. The Publican's Booth was presided over by Mr K. P. March of Ohertsey, and wns wellpatronised. The officials, one and all, deserve to be congratulated upon the whole hearted manner in which they worked to ensure the success of the meeting. The genial and courteous secretary, Me M. J. Liddy, got through an enormous amount of work to the satisfaction of everybody, his work prior to tho actual date oil the meeting being in no small degree responsible for the successful outcome of the function. The handicappers in both horse and athletic events are to be complimented upon the excellence of their work. The judging in all events was satisfactory to competitors and backers alike.
