Colonels Moore and Jowsey Retire.

BATTALION PARADE AND PRESENTATION AT TIMARU.

A battalion parade was held at Timaru yesterday, at Caroline Bay beach, as a farewell to Colonels Moore and Jowsoy, whose commissions shortly expire. The parade state wns .: —Battalion staff : Lieuten-ant-Colonels Moore and Jowsey. Captain and Adjutant Foden, Sergeant-Major Cradley, and Q.M.S. Turdom. Several officers of the permanent staff wero also present. Timai-uCity Rifles, under Captain Moore and Lieutenant Blunden 25 rank and file • Ashburfcon Kifles, Captain] Dolman and Lieutenants Hayes and Hefford, 39 rank and file; Timaru Port' Ouards, Captain Raymond, and Lieutenant Kerr, 10 rank and file; Timaru liifles. Captain Bockinghatn and Lieutenants McNob and Gordon, 11 rank and file ; Waimate Rifles, Captain Barclay and Lieutenant Jackson, 9 rank and file j Geraldine Rifles, Captain Mackenzie and Lieutenant Gresham, 28 rank and file; Ashburton Guards, .Captain Swhwartz and Lieutenants Percy and fucker; 27 rank and file. The Temuka Rifles were represented by Captain Paterson, Lieutenant Hintz, and a non-commis-sioned officer. The Garrison Band, under Bugler Sergeant Elgin and Bandmaster Mellor, numbered 17. The parade was not a long one, as some of the volunteers had to leave by the express. Before leaving the beach, the volunteers were massed near the terrace, ana addressed by Colonel Porter. He spoke in favourable terms of the work done, but expressed disappointment at the small attendance in two of the Timaru corps. In the evening a smoke social wasjneid the majority of tha local and visiting officers being present. Presentations were made on behalf of the members of the South Canterbury Battalion to both Colonels Moore and Jowsey. Captain Beckingham, of the Timaru Rifles, presented Colonel Moore with a fine oak and silver salad bowl, and a silver mounted iukstand, and Captain Mackenzie, of the Geraldine Bifles, presented Colonel Jowsey with a silver mounted drinking flask, a silver match box, and a The presentations were in each case made and replied to in suitable terms.
