(Ext raokdinaby) . (Received August 26, 8.'26 a.m.) New York, Aug 25 Reliance won the third heat. (Received 9.2 a.m.) . i At eight o'clock this morning the wind was southeasterly with a seven-knot breeze, and smooth sea. The betting was 8 to 1 on the Reliance, those odds being freely offered. The Shamrock's re-measurement, with anchor and chain aboard, unaltered the time allowance. The Shamrock's hull rivets were tightened, as they had been started slightly by the strain of Saturday's match. The triangular course was taken. The Relianpa aroused the line 84secs. ahead of the Shamrock, in a five-knot wind. After going 50tnins. the Reliance was 700 yds ahead. The wind strengthening, and the Shamrock getting to wind ward reduced the lead to a quarter of a mile. Received Aug. 2fi, 12.40 p.m. The Shamrock pointed higher to-day. The haze obscured the yachts, but the Reliance was seen to be still leading v/hen passing the first mark, and, ft ad increased her lead at tb.o tjeciond. A southerly breeze r.'tthis st'ige livened matters up, and some spiri'ed reaching took place to the finish. The Shamrock, favonredby the breeze, held the Reliance splendidly. Auckland,, August 2G The Yacht C^u,Vs cable', via the Pacific, reports that the R-jliauce won by 52sec?. The offtcinl time for the race was : — Reliance 2hr. 15min. SOsec.'; Shamrock, 2hr. 20min. IQsec. (Shamrock's time allowance is 155s'ecs.) ■■ (The contest is decided by the first three wins. \t will be thus seen, that should Reliance win tomorrow's race, she secures three decided ho,it?, within the time limit, and America will retain the Cup).
